Hash Generator
Hashes update as you type. You can also pick a file to compute its checksum.

Which hash should I use?
- SHA-256 is the default choice for checksums, signatures and content addressing.
- SHA-384 / SHA-512 give longer digests and are used in TLS and Subresource Integrity.
- MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security because collisions can be created on purpose. They're still fine for spotting accidental corruption and matching old checksums.
Don't use these for passwords
General-purpose hashes are designed to be fast, which makes brute-forcing passwords fast too. Store passwords with a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt.
